Breckenridge began as a mining town in the early 1800s. Though it still remains a relatively small city with a population of only 2,000, today Breckenridge is known nationwide for its ski resorts and summer activities.
A new home in Breckenridge offers just the right amount of space, skiing and housing to make a vacation home in the Rockies reasonably attainable.

Breckenridge New Home
Have you ever pictured yourself bounding off the moguls, or being able to hit up several top notch ski areas in a single day? Breckenridge is feasible and offers access to multiple ski areas. Whether looking for a condo or a new home in Breckenridge, there are some things you as a home shopper need to know about the area. You may be surprised what you find.
Many of the real estate agents in the area have listings of new units that start in $150,000 and gradually work their way up from there. There really is no limit to the price tag. There’s also no limit to the amount of space you have available to you. Condos offer amenities suited to those who vacation or just don’t need the space you will find in a multi-family home. You need to decide what style will fit your needs. Is there going to be lots of family around a hearth at Christmastime, or is it going to be a summer vacation home in an idyllic alpine setting? Are you going to be a year round resident?
When you buy a home here you have a valuable investment because units in Breckenridge don’t stay on the market for long. The population of Breckenridge is 2,408. There are 4,270 total housing units and 2,906 of those are seasonal. Some homes sell especially quick. The Summit Daily News reported on July 4th 2005 that $6.4 million worth of property sold in three hours. This was a special sales event highlighting the two new neighborhoods in the Highlands, a subdivision of Breckenridge. Of the 23 home sites offered, 21 lots sold. Quite a bit of money went into the local ski resort as well.
Recently the Four Peaks Ski Area had $40 million of on-mountain improvements. With all the ski recreation and year-round residence, Breckenridge is both a home and vacation spot. Breckenridge is near some of the top ski areas like Keystone and Copper Mountain Ski resorts — places that define the Rockies. If you’re not an avid skier, then you could check out rock climbing or mountains biking since there are many natural areas to explore. You don’t have to be an adrenaline junkie to live here though. There are plenty of other activities for people of all ages.
A new home in Breckenridge would be a ski lover’s paradise, referred to by some as “2,000 acres of deep powder shining.” If you simply appreciate the outdoors and the sheer beauty of Breckenridge, than maybe the 140 year old Victorian town is right for you. Breckenridge has enough to offer for the modest or the lavish.
